Many inspired hockey players are now doing some sort of off-ice training to improve their fitness level on the ice. While the training programs may vary for players of different skill level and age, there is a common denominator that needs to be addressed for each player. That denominator is how do you know that your off-ice program is actually improving your performance on the ice? For our athletes at hockeyot.com we have developed a testing battery that we have them perform prior to initiating a training program. In this way we are able to measure there progress in the following categories:

Dr. Chad Moreau did his studies at the University of South Carolina and the Southern California University of Health Sciences. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He has worked with a variety of athletes, from youth hockey to professional players

Dr. Chad Moreau is the president of hockeyot.com, an online training site dedicated to improving the fitness level of hockey players of all levels. He was the Strength & Conditioning/Nutrition Consultant for the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club in the National Hockey League from 2005-9. For more information please visit hockeyot.com.

Our testing battery consists of 2 one hour sessions and gives us a very complete picture of the individual player’s strengths and weaknesses. We retest many of the variables every 8 weeks to make sure that the athlete is achieving their objectives for their training program. For elite programs, we will then test again at training camp. Hockey is quickly becoming a sophisticated sport where training and testing have become a science similar to what football has developed. If you want to play at the top of your game then make sure your training program is giving you what you need to excel.
